Bill Hook Silly videos aside, the first Immortal album was still a landmark BM release. It is both entirely different from their later discography, in tone and style, and more progressive than most of their contemporaries. But this album is all about vibey Bathory worship. Well worth a buy! Favorite track: The Call Of The Wintermoon.

xhrl_ Immortal unveiled the core of early BM in this debut offering an intensity of mood & tone that few metal acts can match. Combining the elements of early DM, the vastly different structures & themes of the previous era's hobbit rock, & the simple rhythmic insurgency of hardcore, these Norwegians created a depth of intricacy with a matching mythology. Although often simple progressions overlay the songs, they are ably manipulated to create ambitious & arching elements in the musical narrative.
